Abstract: Communication over long distance system from remote location to central system is key aspect in industry with lower cost, low maintenance, efficiency, secure data, control and monitor data from remote device. There are many applications where device located at remote location like desert, city outskirt, forest, mountain top, buildings etc. require communication between central system to collect data generated by application devices and control devices. Applications like solar power converters, three phase energy meters are prime examples, which have application in remote location require to share critical information to central system at long distance also such device require to exchange critical information of data internally. Technologies which increase communication area include wireless and wired networks and, based on application selecting right technology is critical decision which can make or break project purpose. Radio wave communication which includes Wi-Fi 802.11ah (HaLow), LoRa, satellite communication, Microwave communication provide wireless communication for long range where RS485, Ethernet, PLC provide wired network to exchange information. This paper is to explore, Power Line communication (PLC) technologies, Application example, advantage and disadvantages over long distance communication for speed , stability, Installation and maintenance cot , usability and mobility.
