Abstract: Power Electronics devices are becoming more and more required in nowadays applications for they ability to ensure energy control and adaptation. The applications cover the entire range of power, going from small power levels as in power supplies and small battery chargers to high power levels such as HVDC transmission systems, renewable energy fed microgrids and electric trains. In order to control these devices and enhance their performance, an accurate mathematical model of these systems is necessary to develop. Several modelling techniques exit and will be presented. The modeling allows having a digital representation of the converter that would help for real-time simulations, and for testing and assessing its dynamic performance before the final implementation phase. In addition, model-based controllers can be designed to ensure a desired behavior depending on the considered application. Several case studies will be presented, going from power factor correction to grid-connection of renewables.
