Abstract: This webinar focuses on one of our latest research work in the hybrid switched-capacitor (SC) field, a cascaded multi-resonant converter. This converter has a good balance between the switch stress and passive component utilization, and achieves superior efficiency and power density. Some details of this converter design will be discussed, including the topology derivation, the design of magnetics, and the control techniques of zero-current-switching and zero-voltage-switching operations. Moreover, the practical considerations such as the component nonidealities and PCB layout will be discussed. By using this topology, our latest 48V-to-12V converter achieves 99.0% peak and 97.7% full-load system efficiency, with 6000 W/in3 power density. With such high performance, this topology is a competitive candidate for 48 V intermediate-bus converters in datacenter power delivery as well as other emerging applications such as automotive and high-bandwidth communication.
The objective of this webinar is to show that, with topological modification and design iteration, the emerging hybrid-resonant SC solutions have potential to achieve outstanding performance in more and more challenging datacenter power delivery.
