Abstract: The Danish power system is undergoing significant changes these years and so are the tools needed to predict the system’s dynamic behavior. Methods ranging in complexity from single bus-bar single frequency to detailed EMT and use of real-time HIL are discussed based on already identified and future needs. The presentation is centered around a series of examples ranging from grid integration and operation of the wind power plant and interconnectors hybrids, design and integration of Denmark’s future energy islands (integration of power-electronic-based systems in power systems), dimensioning of fast reserves and key findings from a number of critical events that occurred in the Danish system. Strategies for ensuring model performance and maintenance are discussed as well.
