Abstract: This webinar presents some of the latest research and development of hybrid and resonant switched-capacitor (SC) power converters. In the context of data center power delivery, we showcase a few high-performance hybrid SC works with superior efficiency and power density. As an example, our latest 48V-to-12V resonant SC converter achieves 99.0 percent peak and 97.7 percent full-load system efficiency, with 6000 W-in3 power density. Various facets of the hybrid converter design will be discussed, including the analysis of topological benefits, the design of gate drive circuit and magnetics, the control techniques for soft-charging and soft-switching, and the considerations of component nonidealities. Furthermore, the concept of “multiple-operating-phase” is introduced to reduce the circuit complexity of hybrid SC converters at high conversion ratios, such as 48 V to 8 V, 6 V, and directly down to point-of-load voltages.
The objective of this webinar is to show that, while more mature topologies have seen diminishing returns in the last few years, hybrid-resonant SC solutions have demonstrated great promise with rapid improvement and outstanding performance in hardware prototypes.
